Today I read about the Tsunami in the south Pacific from an 8.0 earthquake. In the year 2000 we had world wide 22256 earthquakes recorded and 23534 in 2001. In 2006 we had 29568 followed with 29685 in 2007. And finally last year being the highest on record with 31777 earthquakes recorded world wide. That is a 29.9% increase over the past decade in earthquake frequency. In 1980 there were 119 earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or greater worldwide, while in 2008, 180 earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or greater were recorded. That is a 33.8% increase in 6.0 or greater earthquakes since 1980.
Is this something to be alarmed about? I don't know if this is a sign or not but I do know what Jesus said in Matthew Chapter 24:7-8. "...For nation will rise against nation , and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows."
For famines all we to do is look to the 5.5 billion people in the developing world of Africa, Asia and South America, and look at the millions that die each year of starvation from famine.
The same goes for Pestilence. HIV/AIDS affects about 33 million people in the world and 22 million of those are in Africa. 25 million have died just from AIDS since 1981. And yet this doesn't even count Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Ebola, or any number of other infectious diseases in the world today.
Wars and Rumors of Wars. This is an easy one. Can anyone look at the middle east over the past 30 years and NOT see wars. Has anyone gone a week without hearing about the possibility of War with Iran? Have we not seen Iran threaten Israels existence? Have we not seen Russia warn Israel not to attack Iran or face dire consequences? Isn't Russia and Iran the two main allies in the Gog and Magog prophecies?
Every time I see a news story about great disaster or great war I think about the last days and how close they could be. Our time is running out. Take this day, this hour, this min to repent and accept God's free gift of eternal life. There is nothing more pressing, nothing more urgent than your relationship with Jesus Christ. Eternity is too important to wait.
